Meet BCN founders, Tracey and Mimi, and our team of local clinicians!
Tracey Powell, M.S., LPC is a mental health professional, former sales and account manager, and former teacher. She also worked for many years as a bartender in golf clubs, restaurants and catering companies while completing her education. She brought that experience to the start-up of Blend and since 2015 has been striving to deliver high quality experiences to Blend's employees and customers. While working as a counselor in Ashburn, Tracey became more convinced that more affordable group and individual counseling opportunities needed to be available. She met with many teenagers who were anxious, depressed, overloaded with pressure and information, and in real need of support and positive strategies for managing it all. Ever since working with The Women's Center, a non-profit counseling center in Vienna, VA, she'd been thinking Loudoun County needed a similar, lower-cost option for counseling and education. She's excited to have Blend Coffee Bar and Ashburn's Got Talent in place to help launch this new and important effort.
Mimi Backhausen worked as a business professional in the IT industry for over 15 years in software development and sales & marketing. She also owned a travel/hospitality newsletter and website for travel writers. The love of the style and abundance of coffee shops overseas inspired her to start Blend. She has been serving as a full-time supervisor of Blend's operations for several years. She is married and has a middle school daughter, and understands how important it is for teenagers to have access to positive influences and information on mental health. She was happy to focus Blend Coffee Bar's non-profit efforts on improving mental health services for young people in Loudoun County, and looks forward to the Blend Counseling Network's expansion to serve all age groups.
